Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) is one of the leading higher education institutions in the Baltics with growing research capacities. Recognized as the highest quality higher education institution with the best reputation in Latvia, RSU is evaluated as Reputation leader for the last five years. RSU prepares specialists in the field of medicine and health care, and in the social sciences. RSU has entered international university rankings because the study environment created by RSU is focused on students and internationality.
The Institute of Anatomy and Anthropology (IAA), or the Theatrum Anatomicum, is a structural unit of RSU operating in the fields of academics, research, and medical diagnostics. The main activities of IAA, RSU, are to implement study processes and research projects.
In this project, Prof. Māra Pilmane’s research group from the IAA, RSU, identifies panels of cytokines and antimicrobial peptides. The expertise of Prof. Māra Pilmane’s research group in identifying cytokines and antimicrobial peptides in milk cellular sediment/smears by immunohistochemistry analysis will be harnessed to test the combined appearance of both types of host response molecules. RSU will contribute to identifying panels of key factors based on the changes undergone along the pro-inflammation, inflammation, and suppression phases. Results of these studies will underpin the identification of cytokine/antimicrobial peptide panels showing significant changes at infection onset, the key point for the early diagnosis of bovine mastitis.
