Overwiew
Beatriz’s research explores the multidisciplinary domain of bio-inspired nanotechnologies, working on the design, micro- and nanofabrication and surface chemistry of emerging nanostructures, to integrate them in diagnostic devices fit-for-purpose designed. She conducts research on Si-based nanotechnologies that involves fabrication of Si nanochannels via templated etching, differentially functionalised to site-specifically display receptors, and tune the electrochemical features of porous Si (pSi). Beatriz’s main interest currently focuses on exploring the potential of carbon-stabilised pSi, as well as other nanoporous materials, to develop high-performing electrochemical biosensors to suit diagnosis at each one of the steps involved in the dynamic biological process of infection.
Core principles
The Bioinspired nanotechnologies research group builds on core principles supporting responsible research, that originate to tackle scientific and social needs, and is undertaken to benefit our society, addressing from local to international challenges.
