This study demonstrates a comprehensive report on inflammatory and regulatory cytokines in cows affected by naturally occurring subclinical and clinical mastitis. In naturally occurring mastitis, knowledge, at the cellular and molecular level, of the host immune response and during the infection is fundamental to the early and timely diagnosis, and in perspective pathogenesis-based treatment. Immune response in mastitis is characterized by continuation or resolution of initial inflammation to protect the udder, reduce transiently the risk of infection while lowering the severity of mastitis.
