First round of milk samples collection completed

2021-06-21: First round of milk samples collection completed

With a total of 600 milk samples collected from 35 cows, the first round of field tests in Biosens4PrecisionMastitis ended on June 21, 2021 in Urbanki (Northern Poland). This was an important experimental step in our project, which will allow for the identification of miRNAs and key cytokines/antimicrobial peptides with a potential to distinguish between infected and healthy cows by our novel biosensors.

Biosens4PrecisionMastitis innovation relies on non-invasive and stress-free milk biopsies. This is why milk is our focal point. Following clinical observations of animals and investigations of somatic cell count in milk, we have identified cows with clinical mastitis, subclinical mastitis and healthy cows

– explains Lukasz Gontar from Research and Innovation Centre Pro-Akademia, one of the partners in Biosens4PrecisionMastitis project, who coordinated the field experiments and the first step of microbiological research.

The collected milk samples have showed that mastitis can be caused by many different pathogens, while also different biomarkers could be useful for mastitis detection. We are looking forward to sharing the details on our first results with you very soon!
